BUBBLE DECK SLAB
Bubble deck is a hollow, flat two way structural slab in which hollow plastic ball are inserted in order to eliminate the concrete in the middle of the conventional slab which does not contribute to its structural performance, while maintaining both the span {biaxial} strength
bubble deck was invented back in 1990s by Jorgen Bruenig, who developed the first bi-axial hollow slab (know as Bubble Deck Slab) in Denmark. this new construction technology using bubble deck slab now applied in many projects all over the world.
how it works :
The basic principal is to dramatically reducing the structural dead weight by incorporating hollow plastic sphere in the floor in order the eliminate all the concrete from the midle of the floor slab which re not performing any structural function.
Material used in Bubble Deck Slab
1. Concrete
Concrete used to fill the joints in the bubble deck slab must be above M20- M25 Grade concrete with nominal size of aggregate.
self compacting concrete is usually used. Self-compacting concrete can be poured into forms, flow around congested
areas of reinforcement and into tight sections, allow air to escape and
resist segregation.
2. Reinforcement Bars
Fe-500 grade or higher strength steel is used
The reinforcement is made into two mashes and placed at one at top and one at bottom of the hollow bubble which can be tied or welded.
The spacing between the reinforcement depends on the size of the hollow bubble sphere
3. Hollow Bubble
The bubbles are made using high-density polypropylene materials. These
are usually made with a non-porous material that does not react
chemically with the reinforcement bars or concrete.
