How to Unclog A Sink in A Best Possible Way

There must be time in every house when you say water is not going down the drain. That could be yours worst day, clogged drain are just a part of interior plumbing.

The first thing that came to your mind will be pick a phone a call and plumber, but before you do read this do-it yourself to fix the clog problem for you sink. 

Yes you can actually troubleshoot the issue and prevent them from happening again. so, here are the easy ways that can help you clear the clogged sink.

Use The Plunger to Unclog A Sink 

This is the very first thing that I prefer when it come to unclog a sink. Yes you heard it right a "Plunger". A plunger is not only good for uncloging toilet but it is utmost effective for sink as well. 

Simply follow this steps when you try plunger to unclog sink.

1.  Fill half of the sink with water, make sure it does not come out of it and make your floor wet. water will help in creating pressure.
2.  Now place the plunger on the holes of sink make sure it cover completely .
3.  Now the next step will be obviously, pull the plunger up and down. so that pressure is created which helps in unclogging the drain of the sink.
4.  If the plunger successfully remove the clog, you will see the water draining.
5.  If the water is draining slowly that's means plunger remove sink clog partially, in that case you have to use plunger or some other technique again which are discuss below.

  

Use Boiling water

Boiling water treatment is one of the easiest and least expensive thing to try out when you get a clog sink.

Follow this process if you wanna try boiling water to unclogged a sink

1.  Boil the water and remove as much water from the sink as you can, geyser hot water works fine to me and it save time as well.
2.  Pour the entire water at a time in the sink and wait, water will drain first slowly and the completely.
3.  If the water drain slowly you have to do this several time.
4. Most of the water clogging problem in sink, fixes with this treatment.
5.  If the problem still continues you can do mix-matched experiments.

Mix - Matched Experiment

What is mix-matched experiment is? These are the experiment with salt and vinegar with boiling water. that I tried if the boiling water treatment does not solve the clogging problem. 

1 Salt with Boiling Water

Remove the standing water from the sink, pour about half cup of salt in the sink hole and let it stay for few minutes and pour hot water completely at a time.

2 Vinegar and Baking soda

You can try vinegar with baking soda if the salt and boiling water doesn't work. Remove the standing water from the sink, pour about a half cup of baking soda into the drain, followed by the white vinegar or apple cider vinegar. this solution forms bubbles and wait for 10-15 minutes. Now run the hot water and see if the clog is clear. Repeat if needed.

3 Baking Soda and Salt

This is another combination that work amazing on clogged sink. Mix about a cup of baking soda with a half-cup of salt. and pour into the drain and let the mixture sit for several hours. then flush the sink with hot water. Repeat 2-3 time if doesn't work for the first time.

Use zip-It to unclog A Sink

Zip-It is a simple to use tool. It is just a plastic stick that can trap hair, thread or similar kind of blocked in the sink. it is mostly used for bathroom drainage if the water stops draining, which happens mostly because of hairs.

Here how you can use Zip-It to unclog the sink.

1.  Remove the standing water from the sink which already discussed in the above steps.
2.  Insert the Zip-it trap in all the holes of the sink one by one. Rotate the stick and pull out.
3.  The upward facing barbs attached to the zip-it stick can easily take out the hairs, threads and any similar kind of material that are causing the sink clog.
4.  Repeat unit a tools come out clean. Now open the tap to check if the clogged problem is solve.

Cable Auger

Cable auger is a handy tool that can clear clog which is below down the sink system. this is what a plumber do to clear the clogging if you called him.

I would suggest you to try above method if that's not work well then you only you should go with this cable auger method as it is little bit complicated.

Here how you can use an auger to treat water clog of your sink.

1.  Firstly detach the pipe under the sink, clean and wash thoroughly with warm water to make sure that the clog is not in this part.
2.  Placed a bucked under the sink, so that the water should not drain on the floor to make it a mess.
3.  Now cable the auger and push the end of it till it hit any resistance. You may need a longer auger if it does not hit any resistance.
4.  Once the auger meets a resistance, move the handle anti-clockwise and pull it back till the cable catches the resistance.
5. It is best to push the clog down once it has been loosened with the auger.
6. Finally add the removed pieces of the PVC pipe and flush warm water to ensure that the clog has been removed completely
