When the structure is damaged the normal visual signs are : cracks which is the most common one, different patterns and size, rust spot or rust stain, peeling of plasters, spalling of concrete, swelling of concrete, chemical attack and corrosion reinforcement if exposed.



The very next job is to know whether the damage is structural or non structural. Some use full information may be obtained from the physical inspection of the damage structure, like nature of distress, type of distress, extent damage and its classification etc., preparing and documenting the damage.




Collecting the sample in order to take to the laboratory for testing and analyzing the further damage, getting the sample ready for in situ testing which is specially done for environmental effect if this has not been consider at the design stage. and the information of loading on structure at the time of damage. necessary action need to be taken in order to prevent the further damage of structure.
